What’s water got to do with it?

water-300x300Did you know that your body is comprised of over 70% water not soda, coffee or tea and if dehydrated you would probably fit inside a moderate sized capsule?  Well maybe not a capsule but the 70% is true.  Your body needs to be hydrated with water in order to rid it of toxins and other harmful waste that can damage cell activity.  Susan Silberstein, owner of beatcancer.org recently posed a great question and that was “what’s the best drinking water?” is it reverse osmosis? Distilled? Ionized? Deep artesian well? Or High mountain spring?  The answer:  1) all are superior to tap water. 2) Any water is better than no water and 3) it depends on what you’re looking for.  She goes on to say that quality hydration is one of the most important aspects of any wellness program…whether for sports performance, optimal weight and energy, or disease protection.  I couldn’t have said it better or agree more with her.  Thanks Susan.  We’ve become a soda, coffee, tea and carbonized society and water tends to be far off most people’s radar these days.  People are addicted to these for their sugary, fat laden, caffeinated monster boosting effects, unaware of their hidden dangers.  Your kidney’s and your liver and your gut need to be flushed daily and your cells need hydration to do their job.   Drinking water also helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

 So how much water should I be drinking you ask?  Great question and the answer is ½ your body weight in ounces per day.  So I weigh 127 and I divide that by half and I should be consuming 63.5 ounces of water a day.

Now you do yours:  your weight________________ divided by 2 = ____________.

I recommend getting a BPA free clear water bottle that you can visually see the water going down as you sip your way through your day.  Now I can hear you asking can I flavor my water because I hate the taste of plain water and the answer is yes as long as it is natural flavoring and not anything artificial.  I love squeezing lemon, lime, orange, or strawberry juice in mine.  I can also hear you wondering if you can still have coffee, tea, or soda and the answer is yes but in moderation and water should be your mainstay.

When consuming water, quantity alone should not only be your only concern, but quality as well.  I have researched and found a great quality bottled water product that is naturally alkaline and contains minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium to name a few.  These minerals play a big part in helping combat the daily insult that your body goes through, especially in stressful times.

I also love the fact that they have go-pak’s that you take with you and when this go pak is added to any bottle of water it makes it mineral rich and alkaline.
