transform-your-mornings

I was reading an article the other day about a young woman who was taking a challenge to transform her morning routine by following that of a busy women CEO. As I was reading, I was chuckling to myself, not because the article was funny, but because this is a subject that I have been talking about for years.

As humans most of us want or crave some kind of structure. It’s not just for kids. Now don’t get me wrong I love some spontaneity, but in my work-life I love consistency and most of the businesswomen that I work with do too.

Having a morning and evening routine or bookending your day, as guru Darren Hardy calls it, sets up your day for less chaos and stress.

So, if you’re looking to develop a healthier work and life balance whether you are now working from home or when you return to work, you might want to look at how you’re spending your mornings and evenings. For the sake of today’s topic, we are going to stick with a morning routine.

I love to research and after researching and reading about successful businesswomen I have found that they all have one thing in common – they are sticklers for their routines.

Are there going to be days when our routines go out the window-heck yes and that is ok, so don’t stress over it, just do the best that you can on any given day.

So, what does a healthy and effective morning routine look like? Let’s take a look at how some of the most successful businesswomen prepare there’s for a better work/life balance and maybe it will give you some ideas of your own.

Prepare the Night Before

One of the best things that you can follow to transform your mornings, is to prepare the night before.

Each evening you should organize your outfit for the next day. You could even prepare your lunch the night before, along with the kid’s lunches, if you have any. If you have kids, you know then that mornings are the most hectic part of the day.

However, if you prepare everything both they and you will need the night before, it will eliminate a lot of the stress for the both of you that can be associated with your morning routine.

You’re striving for your mornings to be smooth and as peaceful as they can be, not with you running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get everything ready for everyone involved.

So, prepare everything you can the night before and this will help to get you off to the best start to the day.

Wake Up Early

Did you know that one of the most common habits all successful businesswomen have, is to wake up early? All of the business greats tend to start between 5am and 6am. Some even get up as early as 4am.

I can just see you now rolling your eyes in your head saying, “yeah right, Michele I have kids and I don’t hit the bed until late.” I get it, when you have kids, the thought of getting up super early isn’t exactly appealing.

However, it can give you plenty of time to wake up and get yourself ready before the rest of the family gets up. If you struggle to get up earlier, try going to bed earlier too.

It may take a little while to get used to, but it will soon become a habit if you persist and push through those first few awkward days.

Enjoy a Little You Time

If you want your mornings to get off to the most relaxing start, you’ll want to set aside time for yourself.

As soon as you wake, do something relaxing. This could be reading a book, listening to relaxing music or listening to a podcast.

You could also use this time to exercise. Many businesswomen struggle to fit exercise into their routine. So, by fitting it into your morning routine, it will help you to meet your fitness goals without needing to find extra time in the day.

Compile Your To-Do-List

Some people prefer to make their to-do list in the evenings. However, this can interrupt your sleep if you’re the type of person to worry about the things you need to do. If this sounds like you, compiling your to-do list in the morning is a better idea.

Write down all of the tasks you need to get done and mark them in order of importance. Then, consider splitting them down into timely chunks, ensuring you know what you’re working on and how long you have to complete each task.

Don’t over task yourself. Through my research the most successful businesswomen keep their daily to do’s down to 3 must get to items and then a few less important ones. If the less important ones don’t get done, then that is ok!

Enjoy a Nutritious Breakfast

Rounding out this list should include a having a nutritious breakfast. Again, if you struggle to find time in the mornings to even have breakfast, you can prepare things the night before.

A protein packed breakfast such as eggs, will give you plenty of energy to face the day ahead. It’s arguably the most important meal of the day so if you want to boost productivity, ensuring you eat a healthy breakfast is recommended.

The other easy go to favorite is the protein smoothie that can be made the night before or by simply having your smoothie packs ready to put in the blender- no chopping necessary.

My hope is that this article gave you some ideas you to consider when creating a morning routine. These are just a few of the ideas you can add 33, but there are a lot of other things you can add. Remember your morning routine is “your morning routine” not someone else’s. Play around with different things to see which ones fit best for you and then stick with them for a while so that it becomes a routine and then if you get bored you can switch things up in a few months. Just remember how you start your morning will ultimately impact how it goes. It may take a while to find the right balance, but once you have a morning routine perfected, it will make a huge difference to your overall day.

Here’s a look at my morning routine:

  • Prayer
  • Read something uplifting
  • A cup of warm water with either lemon or apple cider vinegar
  • Coffee
  • Green smoothie and supplements

Here’s a smoothie recipe to get you started:

This super-healthy recipe is perfect for those who love a little grit in their smoothies. It’s packed full of superfoods and requires very few ingredients. All you need is:

  • Ground flax seeds

  • Blueberries

  • 1/2 – 1 cup Greek yoghurt

  • 1 cup coconut milk

  • A handful of spinach

  • A scoop of your favorite protein powder

If the blueberries are extra-fresh, they may produce a tarter taste. So, you may also want to add a little stevia into the smoothie if you find your blueberries aren’t sweet enough.

You
can use any non-milk product- I use unsweetened Soymilk. If
you’re a vegan, then use a soy-based yogurt as it has more protein than other
non-milk-based yogurts. I
also open up and put my juice plus capsules into mine.

Having
a morning routine is one of the success path steps in our well women monthly
